Bible Scriptures for Confidence
I’ve spent much of my adolesence and young adulthood trying to build the true confidence that comes so naturally to others, so I began writing bible scriptures for confidence on sticky notes.
I’d put the sticky notes on my mirror, my desk, in my car, and on the lampshade next to my bed.
Throughout those years of finding out who I was, I was learning not only to be perceived as confident to peers and employers, but to actually feel confident and learn how to apply my confidence in a humble way.
I was never successful no matter how I tried, until I realized that among all the different walks of life that I’ve encountered, followers of Christ seemed to be the most confident. And their confidence was evident in the way they carried themselves, spoke, and the life-choices they made.
Jeremiah 17:7, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”
Overcoming intrusive thoughts with bible scriptures
I can recall so many moments of having irrational fears. Fears that were intrusive, invasive and totally hypothetical. Sometimes the fear would be easy to forget with distraction, but I knew there was something more that was driving them.
Psalm 27:3, “Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.”
I read that these anxieties may come from OCD, and so I developed some coping mechanisms and habits to break away from these brief, but debilitating thoughts.
When I became a mother, I knew I wasn’t alone in this journey of intrusive thoughts because I read that other moms were dealing with this too.
They said it was normal because suddenly we love someone else so much, that we create irrational scenarios to carry out our innate desire to protect them.
But, still I knew there was a more significant reason.
2 Timothy 1:7, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
I remember irrational fears taking over my productive time at work. Every news notification of what was happening to the world we live in was contributing to some of my fears that this “bad thing” could happen to me or my family.
Stopping these notifications would help some, but I still felt that my mind couldn’t erase what I knew about the evil in the world, or sickness and disease.
I couldn’t outsmart my own mind in a sense.
Proverbs 3:25-26, “Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.”
Bible Verses for Confidence and Courage
As I began going to church on a weekly basis, my mindset started to shift. Just by being around other christians, I could see that their confidence wasn’t just on the surface, but it derived from their identity in Christ.
Come to find out, nurturing a personal relationship with God was helping my anxiety. Something was finally working.
I realized that I didn’t have to suffer through my anxieties alone, but I could cast them onto him and receive peace in return.
Ephesians 3:12, “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”
Confidence through Salvation
I started to replace irrational thoughts with these bible scriptures about confidence.
I also learned to trust in God’s word. By trusting in his word, a profound confidence and security came over me knowing that with my faith in him, I will have everlasting life. This alleviated a lot of my fears about death, or one day leaving my kids behind.
Hebrews 13:6, “So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’”
Now that I had worked on my irrational fears, I could start figuring out how to let my confidence shine. Self-confidence is really about feeling capable and trusting your own abilities.
I never assumed that confident people were more capable than me, or had more experience in things than I did. In fact, I knew people that exuded confidence but didn’t have a college degree or wealth status.
2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Confidence and Integrity
What made them appear confident though, was their assurance in their voice, their judgements and arguments, and what they liked/disliked.
To me this seemed like they were true to themselves, and I wanted to be that way.
I knew being true to myself was living according to christian morals and developing my own honesty and integrity.
Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Once I started prioritizing my faith, I felt a huge weight had lifted off my shoulders and I could breathe.
Reinforcing confidence through community
You don’t have to go to church to improve your confidence through faith, but being a part of a supportive community in the church has made my confidence soar, and helped me thrive as a mother. Confidence is something that nobody can take from you, and something that you can always take with you, wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
